Pasteurization
Continuous liquid egg pasteurization with recorded thermal control.
A variety of alternative schemes; the final solution can be used for any type of pasteurizer.
BTH AMERICA ESL pasteurization was the first real innovation system and can extend the shelf life of product protection attributes. By combining BTH dedication to innovation and commitment to the egg processing industry with the latest liquid processing and heat transfer technology from USA and Europe, BTH has developed an entire range of egg product pasteurization systems.
General — ESL
ESL after pasteurization, meant to extend the shelf life (ESL) of liquid egg products, is almost three times as long as compared with the life of a conventional liquid egg product. Shelf life extension of the adjustment is in the process of pasteurization, exposing the eggs for the time needed for heating.
What the system delivers
- Highest possible bacterial reduction = shelf life.
- Best product performance.
- Highest energy efficiency.
- Lowest operating costs.
Precise control
Power control is accurately metered and may be recorded. A meter constantly displays the amount of power being applied to heat the product.
Quick response
The full range of power control from minimum to maximum is traversed in seconds. Adjustments take effect immediately. Thermal lag time is zero. Automatic changes in power level due to physical properties or size of load are instantaneous.
Liquid product handling
After breaking the egg into whole egg, or separating the yolk from the albumen, the egg must be filtered, cooled and if necessary mixed with salt or sugar to match the need of the end-user. In order to maintain a superior quality and secure a long shelf life, it is vital to keep this process as clean and cool as possible. With the patented automatic filter systems in combination with a specialized knowhow on plant design, BTH AMERICA is able to supply installations which will meet the hygiene requirements of today as well as tomorrow.
Heat exchangers and control
BTH AMERICA pasteurizers are specially designed for the egg processing industry and are available with either plate and/or tubular heat exchangers. Gentle handling and accurate temperature control are two of the key elements that have been optimized in the pasteurizer to ensure highly efficient pasteurization and achieve a high-quality output.
Product properties
The challenge of pasteurizing is first of all to achieve as long a shelf life as possible while at the same time maintaining the unique product properties of the egg and supplying the specialized products which will match the needs of your customers. The product properties must be secured irrespective of whether standard whole egg or specialized salted or sugared products are pasteurized. From the wide selection of different modules we customize the pasteurizer to match your specific requirements with regard to the raw material fed to the pasteurizer and the requirements of your customer.
Capacity and compliance
The pasteurizers are available with capacities from 600 to 10,000 l/h in standard configurations. Lower and higher capacities are available on demand. All BTH AMERICA pasteurizers are built in accordance with the EC rules, or USDA or CFIA, depending on the country of destination.
Valves and fittings
- No shaft alignment necessary; no coupling guard required. Special base design enhances cleanability and reduces overall length of the complete unit by an average of 20–25%.
- Average of 10–20 gear ratios available per horsepower; NEMA or IEC frames available; right angle reducer also available for additional space savings.
- 1/2 through 60 horsepower drive options available.
- Horizontal or vertical porting available; separate oil sump for gear reducer and timing gears.
- For clean-in-place applications (CIP), a piston in the actuator allows opening of the valve without having to over-pressure it. After relieving of CIP is complete, the valve reseats in place.
- Exterior adjustment with sealed cap to safeguard threaded area; no exposed threads.
- Positive-Stop prevents overloading of spring and engages with the sealed cap to lock in the setting.
- Cracking pressure adjustment ranges from zero (fully unloaded) to maximum published holding pressure of standard, heavy-spring actuators.
- Piston for full opening / by-pass; heavy-duty construction with three bearing locations and sealed, welded construction.
- S-Line connections consist of two matching ferrules, a gasket and a clamp to complete this union. Utilizing these unions into a process piping system will ensure easy assembly and disassembly of process lines and equipment.
- If a change to a system becomes necessary, this can be accomplished quickly and easily with S-Line fittings. These versatile fittings were originally designed for both COP (clean-out-of-place) and CIP (clean-in-place) applications.
- 3-A sanitary standard 85-02 approval; PMO Section 15p(B) compliance for single seat lift separation while product is in the opposite housing; PMO Section 12p compliance for ability to clean all product contact surfaces.
- Fully independent operation and cleaning of either the upper or lower housing is achieved due to continuous production and cleaning; secure and reliable; compact and better value; completely and easily serviceable; robust.
Pasteurization time and temperature parameters are set per product type and per the applicable USDA requirement for your plant. BTH Americas configures each system to the parameters your inspection program requires.
