BTH Egg Washing Systems
BTH Egg Washing Systems — BTH America equipment brochure, p. 9.

The BTH AMERICA egg washers are the result of an intensive project, analyzing new ideas for egg washing in combination with the knowledge of years and long experience solving the challenges and problems our customers are faced with.

The BTH GENTLE WASH egg washer, built exclusively by BTH AMERICA, is the most gentle and effective egg washer on the market today. The unique brushing action plus a high volume, zero pressure wash solution delivery system.

The egg washers are capable of working with any kinds of eggs (nest-runs, grader eggs, dirts, leakers, “mud balls”, etc.) and are suitable to work in-line and off-line operations. No matter the conditions.

The Gentle Wash system

  • Reduces egg losses.
  • Reduces water and chemical consumption.
  • Reduces / eliminates foam problems and the need for defoamer.

Why washing matters before breaking

Due to the high cost of eggs, when the egg has been broken on the breaking machine it is vital that every single egg is drained completely. This may seem an easy job, but with the different sizes and qualities of eggs it requires highly specialised equipment. A second requirement for today’s manufacturer is the separation of yolk and albumen — the demand for specialised egg products is increasing, and the foundation for this is clean albumen and high solids yolk.

Breaking & separation

The core of the BTH range — breaker separators from 18,000 to 180,000 eggs per hour, in full-scale and compact configurations.

Breaking

ULTRA Breaker

High-capacity breaking and separation for industrial plants.

BTH ULTRA Breaker
BTH ULTRA Breaker — BTH America equipment brochure, p. 9–11.

BTH AMERICA ULTRA BREAKER represents state-of-the-art machinery within loading, washing, breaking and separation machinery, incorporating all the latest and most advanced technologies. Traditionally the focus has been on speed and capacity, but in the ULTRA BREAKER all aspects of the production process have been optimised. The line is fully automatic, requiring no operators during production (except USA and Canada), and the cleaning after breaking eggs is performed by the built-in CIP system.

The breaking and white-yolk separating and inspection systems are highly efficient for clean, high-whip egg whites, higher solids egg yolks and maximum product recovery. The operation cost is the lowest on the market. For breaking and white-yolk separating, BTH AMERICA has developed two different groups of machines — the ULTRA BREAKER and the ULTRA BREAKER COMPACT.

The key component of an egg processing plant is the egg breaker. BTH produces a wide range of egg breaker separators with capacity from 20,000 to 180,000 eggs/hour.

Two groups of machines

The ULTRA BREAKER is designed for high performance factories requiring the most advanced separation technology available, while the ULTRA BREAKER COMPACT is the right choice for small to medium volume factories producing whole egg or only separating small product quantities. The ULTRA BREAKER and the ULTRA BREAKER COMPACT share the same highly advanced in-feed technique and optimized NO JAM CRACKER, ensuring a minimum quantity of whole egg loss and maximum recovery after breaking the eggs.

Crackers and cups

BTH crackers and cups are the most rugged and innovative in the industry. Heavy duty components assure more operation time with significantly less maintenance time. Built-in spray nozzles provide required water rinsing during operations. Optional CIP system is available.

Separating machines

Separating machines feature a unique cup configuration for maximum recovery of unbroken yolks and high quality egg whites; proper inspection areas for operators; extra drain time for more product recovery; efficient rinsing of cups and crackers; and significantly less water carry-over and yolk residue after cup rinsing.

Breaking

Breaking Compact

Full breaking capability in a reduced footprint.

BTH Breaking Compact
BTH Breaking Compact — BTH America equipment brochure, p. 11–13.

The Compact is designed according to the same principles and technology as the OptiBreaker, but with a capacity suitable for the small and medium sized customers who separate yolk and egg white.

In-feed

The eggs are manually loaded into the roller conveyor. As an option a brush can be installed to wash the eggs on the roller conveyor while water is sprayed on the eggs.

Gentle handling of eggs

The eggs are gently transferred to individual breaker units which are able to handle all egg sizes safely. The eggs are gently opened close to a receiving tray, which results in a very low amount of broken yolk. After the eggs are delivered to the tray, the breaking units vibrate to optimise the draining of the shells.

Inspection

All eggs are delivered into a chute where all liquid egg can be inspected by an operator, who easily can remove possible broken yolk spots in the egg white.

Low maintenance and few operators

The OptiBreaker Compact 2 is designed with only a few and easily exchangeable mechanical parts. As standard the machine is designed for manual cleaning.

Pasteurization & clean-in-place

Thermal processing with recorded control, and the automated cleaning that a USDA-inspected plant is judged on.

Processing

Pasteurization

Continuous liquid egg pasteurization with recorded thermal control.

BTH Pasteurization
BTH Pasteurization — BTH America equipment brochure, p. 13, 15.

A variety of alternative schemes; the final solution can be used for any type of pasteurizer.

BTH AMERICA ESL pasteurization was the first real innovation system and can extend the shelf life of product protection attributes. By combining BTH dedication to innovation and commitment to the egg processing industry with the latest liquid processing and heat transfer technology from USA and Europe, BTH has developed an entire range of egg product pasteurization systems.

General — ESL

ESL after pasteurization, meant to extend the shelf life (ESL) of liquid egg products, is almost three times as long as compared with the life of a conventional liquid egg product. Shelf life extension of the adjustment is in the process of pasteurization, exposing the eggs for the time needed for heating.

What the system delivers

  • Highest possible bacterial reduction = shelf life.
  • Best product performance.
  • Highest energy efficiency.
  • Lowest operating costs.

Precise control

Power control is accurately metered and may be recorded. A meter constantly displays the amount of power being applied to heat the product.

Quick response

The full range of power control from minimum to maximum is traversed in seconds. Adjustments take effect immediately. Thermal lag time is zero. Automatic changes in power level due to physical properties or size of load are instantaneous.

Liquid product handling

After breaking the egg into whole egg, or separating the yolk from the albumen, the egg must be filtered, cooled and if necessary mixed with salt or sugar to match the need of the end-user. In order to maintain a superior quality and secure a long shelf life, it is vital to keep this process as clean and cool as possible. With the patented automatic filter systems in combination with a specialized knowhow on plant design, BTH AMERICA is able to supply installations which will meet the hygiene requirements of today as well as tomorrow.

Heat exchangers and control

BTH AMERICA pasteurizers are specially designed for the egg processing industry and are available with either plate and/or tubular heat exchangers. Gentle handling and accurate temperature control are two of the key elements that have been optimized in the pasteurizer to ensure highly efficient pasteurization and achieve a high-quality output.

Product properties

The challenge of pasteurizing is first of all to achieve as long a shelf life as possible while at the same time maintaining the unique product properties of the egg and supplying the specialized products which will match the needs of your customers. The product properties must be secured irrespective of whether standard whole egg or specialized salted or sugared products are pasteurized. From the wide selection of different modules we customize the pasteurizer to match your specific requirements with regard to the raw material fed to the pasteurizer and the requirements of your customer.

Capacity and compliance

The pasteurizers are available with capacities from 600 to 10,000 l/h in standard configurations. Lower and higher capacities are available on demand. All BTH AMERICA pasteurizers are built in accordance with the EC rules, or USDA or CFIA, depending on the country of destination.
